the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. Psalms 146:8
Beware all oppressors. The Lord our God is a mighty warrior. He stands ready to be a helper to those that you manipulate, subjugate and confiscate the very lives of those that you feel are beneath you. Open your eyes, you blind leaders. Seek the Lord to touch and make you well before it is too late.
Our God, the God of the Bible, will turn His attention to lift up the downtrodden and set them free from the burdens that you have put upon their backs. Jesus tells us in His first public sermon that He came to set the captives free. This includes those that have voluntarily subjected themselves to the demons found in addiction. Others will suddenly have their eyes opened and the mental illness that they have been experienced for generations will be lifted. Peace and joy will be restored to His people. You who are hunched over from the burden of this world, turn your eyes to the Lord your God. Salvation and freedom in coming. It can only come from Him, accept no substitute.
While our God loves all of us. The righteous have a special place in His heart. Every day comes with opportunities for sin and chances to obey the King. I once told my kids that I loved them from before I knew that they existed, to the present day and for the rest of my life. This love is nonnegotiable. There is nothing they can do to lessen that love. I also told them that I longed for them to go out and make me proud. My deepest desire is that they would live a life that would give me something to brag about. While it might feel good to have people say nice things about me. There is no comparison to how I feel when someone comes and tells me about how great my kids are. My heart swelled the other day when a gentleman that used to be one of my son’s bosses asked about him. He then when on to tell me what an incredible work ethic my son has. Wow, that sounds just like him.
God is our helper. The Jesus that we often see is patient and gentle. The truth of that image of course depends on who you are. If you are the oppressor, He is coming at you with vengeance and anger. If you are in need, He is your helper. If you are the righteous He is your constant companion.
