Saul was small in his own eyes yet God saw him as the first King of Israel. In our life we will have to choose an identity. This can be done by accepting how others perceive us. If our parents see us a doctor, teacher or some other profession we might take that on as our identity. Are you an artist, athlete, nerd and some other identity that others say define you? You can choose to live in how others see you. There is great danger in this, because it might not be accurate. Maybe you have the heart of a musician, but your father was a great athlete and your brothers followed suit. If you choose to follow their lead you will never live up to your life purpose. Your heart will be incomplete and unhappiness will follow you all the days of your life.
You might also choose to project an identity that you simply want people to believe about you. Many in our society today utilize social media and live a life that they themselves have created. Hopefully, this is more accurate and close to reality. However, many times we get our identity from our profession or some other role. It our identity comes from those places and they for some reason no longer apply, you will be lost without an identity. At one point in my life I was a soldier. My entire identity was soldier. I bled green. One day I chose to leave the military behind. But I had no idea who I was. My self created identity did not serve me.
You, poverty warrior, need to ask God how He sees you. That is our most accurate identity. When God speaks truth, it can be difficult to believe it. If we take the time to accept it we will be blessed beyond measure. Saul only half heartedly accepted God’s view of him. He lived his entire life with insecurity and failed to obey God because he simply did not believe God’s view of him. As a result Saul fell, his family did not rise as they should have.
Poverty warrior, spend time with God and ask Him how He sees you. Ask Him to make it abundantly clear. My friend He will not disappoint.
