You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:5
It is highly predictable. Think back to the final months of President Obama’s presidency. There was an open seat in the Supreme Court. Democrats said it was the responsibility of congress to fill that seat. Republicans stated that it should wait until after the inauguration of President Trump. You can google interviews with prominent congressmen from that era and hear with their own words passionate pleading for their side. Four years later, the roles were reversed. President Biden had been elected and while waiting for the inauguration there was again an open seat on the Supreme Court. This time the rhetoric was flipped. Republicans were declaring it was the responsibility of the congress to immediately fill the seat and Democrats said that we needed to wait. Can these people not see their own double minded voice? Can we who support them not see our own blindness?
If we are going to lead people out of captivity it must start with searching our own hearts and minds and be free. We must be healed of our own blindness. If we don’t then it may be the blind leading the blind. Salvation will come down to saying the right magical formula of words and action instead of the truth. The truth is that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, and it takes more than simply saying that you accept that truth to get free. It takes declaring uncompromising allegiance to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. When we make this declaration and choose to live by it, our lives will change. Our taste for sin will diminish. The greatest desire in our hearts will be to ingest more of the Word of God. The spiritual muscles we build will strengthen our love of God and of others.
Search your hearts oh people of God. Examine your motives and ask the Holy Spirit to examine every nook and cranny of your life. Ask Him to purge your life of all sin and anything that disappoints the King.
It seems that Moses had an anger problem. At about 40 years old he killed an Egyptian. He ran from the situation, and it was not until he was about 80 that God met with him at the burning bush that he first began to deal with that anger. Throughout the journeys of the nation of Israel, Moses again and again lost his temper. One day God commanded him to speak to the rock to bring out water. But in anger, Moses struck the rock. The result was that Moses was not permitted to go to the promised land. My friends, examine yourself. What keeps you from fully experiencing all of the promises of God. For most it is not simply a lack of faith, but an unwillingness to repent that holds us back. Purge your life of all sin and submit to the King.
